About Krystal Mazzola
Krystal Mazzola is the founder of the Healthy Relationship Foundation, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a codependency expert and coach. She is the author of two books on the subject; The Codependency Recovery Plan: A 5 Step Guide to Understand, Accept and Break Free from the Codependent Cycle and The Codependency Workbook: Simple Practices for Developing and Maintaining Your Independence.
Krystal is passionate about recovery as she knows it is possible. Despite struggling with depression and anxiety starting at age 11 and growing up in an abusive home which led to her developing PTSD and codependency, she was convinced there had to be hope. She sought healing through various modalities including mental health therapy and yoga. Eventually, she found her way to recovery for all her mental health, and relationship, struggles.
Krystal knows what a profound blessing living in recovery is and wants every person possible to experience this. From a young age, she knew she wanted to dedicate her life to supporting others’ healing. This led her to obtain her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Arizona in gender studies and human sexuality. Before graduate school, she worked in suicide prevention with at-risk youth in Tucson, Arizona. During this time, Krystal realized the profound impact that relationships have on own’s view of self and overall, life satisfaction. Therefore, she decided to become a marriage and family therapist. However, this being prior to the Marriage Equality Act, Krystal wanted to ensure her program valued inclusivity so she attended the highly rated Couples and Family Therapy program at the University of Oregon.
Krystal has provided therapy to individuals, couples and families in office, hospital and intensive residential settings for over a decade. Over these years supporting, and witnessing, countless clients’ recovery she discovered a multi-faceted approach works best to support healing. She uses an integrated approach and utilizes the following modalities proven by research (and Krystal’s professional experience!) to facilitate healing: Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the Gottman Method and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She also incorporates the Meadows Model which she was trained in by world-renowned codependency expert, Pia Mellody. Throughout her over ten years of practice, she has identified what allows people to truly recover. She truly hopes that if you are struggling emotionally, or in your relationships, in any way, she may be of assistance to you through her books, blogs, work as a therapist in Arizona, or her codependency recovery coaching.
As your coach, or therapist, Krystal views herself as your mirror who is there to help you learn to see yourself for who you truly are. Krystal knows that all the strength you need in the world to recover – and have your most joyful life – is already within you. All she does is provide you guidance, support and education to tap into your strength and capability.
